Generic Structure of Procedure Text
Goal → The final purpose/result.
Example: How to Make a Cup of Tea.
Materials/Ingredients → Things needed.
Example: 1 teabag, hot water, sugar, a cup.
Steps/Methods → The actions or instructions.
Example:
First, boil the water.
Next, put the teabag into the cup.
Then, pour the hot water.
Finally, add sugar and stir well.
Use of imperatives (Cut the onions, Pour the water).
Use of action verbs (turn on, put, stir).
Use of connectors of sequence (First, Then, Next, Finally).
Use of adverbs (slowly, carefully, well).
Written in Simple Present Tense.

EXAMPLES
Goal: To make delicious fried rice.
Ingredients:
1 plate of rice
2 cloves of garlic
1 egg
2 tablespoons of oil
Salt and soy sauce
Steps:
First, heat the oil in a pan.
Then, sauté the garlic until it smells good.
Next, add the egg and scramble it.
After that, put in the rice and stir well.
Add salt and soy sauce.
Finally, serve the fried rice on a plate.
Goal: To use a digital camera.
Steps:
First, turn on the camera by pressing the power button.
Then, open the lens cover.
Next, adjust the settings such as mode, brightness, and focus.
After that, point the camera at the object.
Finally, press the shutter button to take a picture.
Goal: To play badminton properly.
Steps:
First, hold the racket correctly with your dominant hand.
Then, stand behind the service line.
Next, serve the shuttlecock to your opponent’s side.
After that, hit the shuttlecock back and forth over the net.

Purpose (Tujuan)
Menjelaskan “How to…” (cara membuat, menggunakan, atau melakukan sesuatu).
Harus jelas dan langsung ke intinya.
Generic Structure
Goal → apa yang akan dibuat/dilakukan (contoh: How to Make Pancakes).
Materials/Ingredients (opsional, tergantung jenis teks) → bahan atau alat yang dibutuhkan.
Steps/Methods → urutan langkah-langkah dengan jelas dan runtut.
Language Features (Ciri Kebahasaan)
Imperative sentences (gunakan kata kerja perintah): Cut, Add, Mix, Don’t forget...
Action verbs (kata kerja aksi): pour, fry, press, hit...
Connectives/sequencing words: First, Then, Next, After that, Finally...
Simple Present Tense: karena menjelaskan fakta dan instruksi.
Adverbs of manner (untuk memperjelas cara): slowly, carefully, quickly.
Clarity (Kejelasan)
Langkah harus singkat, padat, jelas, tidak bertele-tele.
Urutannya logis (jangan lompat-lompat).
Visual Support (jika memungkinkan)
Bisa gunakan gambar, diagram, atau nomor urut untuk memperjelas langkah.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Menggunakan kalimat panjang tanpa perintah yang jelas.
Lupa menuliskan bahan atau alat.
Tidak memakai kata sambung urutan.
Campur grammar (misalnya pakai past tense padahal seharusnya present tense).
